Senior member of the Federation of Canadian Artists
Kenson Seto was born in 1943 in Guang Zhou, China and his interest in art was obvious at the early age of six. Kenson had a chance to meet Professor Situ Qiao of the Central Academy of Art in Beijing when he was twelve, and was deeply influenced by him. It was then that Kenson made his resolution to become an artist when he grew up. Upon graduation from middle high school, Kenson took the first step towards realization of his dream by entering the Attached School of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. During the next four years, he built a very solid foundation for painting and drawing and furthered his study at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts for another five years until graduation. The Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts is recognized as one of China’s most prestigious and competitive art academies. Mr.Guo Shao Gang who is a well known oil painting instructor educated in Russia Repin Art Academy, introduced and broadened the teaching method of Russia’s highest Fine Art Education, including three dimensional light and shadow sketching, impressionism colour theory, and creativeness in realism. This has a profound effect on the young artist.Upon graduation, Kenson was employed by Guang Zhou Cultural Bureau to screen paintings and organize art exhibition. During this period, numerous paintings by Kenson were chosen for exhibition at Guang Zhou Art Shows. He also did illustration for a major magazine, published comic books and designed posters.Kenson and his family immigrated to Canada in 1981 and settled in Vancouver. Here he continued his painting and teaching career. He joined The Federation of Canadian Artists and is also member of Oil Painter of America. Over the years, he exhibited at a number of venues, including the 11th Annual National Juried Exhibition of OPA; the 2nd Painting on the Edge International Exhibition; Exhibition of Guangdong Contemporary Oil Paintings etc. Two of his paintings are now acquired by the National Museum of Civilization, Ottawa, Canada.Kenson is very gifted in oil painting of human subjects. He enjoys using warm and cool colour, light and shadow to paint everything under the sun and has traveled extensively in Europe and Asia to photograph and capture ideas for painting. Recently he visited Tibet twice and has created a series of paintings reflecting the very basic and simplistic life style of the inhabitants there. In this high tech and space age, much of the old tradition had slipped away silently. Industrialization and development are often carried out at the risk of corrupting nature. It is the sincere hope of Kenson that through his paintings, he is able to promote the respect that nature deserves and to maintain the harmony of human beings and their environment.
